Vedic astrology (Jyotish) judges a chart through combinations called yogas: specific placements of planets by house and sign. A yoga only forms when its exact rule is met, which is why the same question, “do I have Raj Yoga?”, gets different answers from different people. Our tools apply the classical rule for each yoga and show *why* it is present or absent, so you can check the reasoning yourself.

Raj Yoga, explained in plain words

A Raj Yoga forms when the lord of a kendra (houses 1, 4, 7, 10: the pillars of the chart) connects with the lord of a trikona (houses 1, 5, 9: the houses of fortune). The connection can be a conjunction, a mutual aspect or an exchange of signs (parivartana). Classical texts tie these combinations to status, authority and recognition, which is why it is the most searched yoga in India.

There are many variations. Vipreet Raj Yoga is the unusual one: it forms when the lords of the difficult houses 6, 8 and 12 sit in one another's houses, and gets three names: Harsha (6th lord), Sarala (8th lord) and Vimala (12th lord). The idea is that trouble cancels trouble, so gains come through obstacles. Gajakesari Yoga needs Jupiter in a kendra from the Moon. Mahabhagya Yoga depends on whether you were born by day or night and on the Sun, Moon and Lagna all falling in odd signs (for men, born by day) or even signs (for women, born by night).

Why does my birth time matter so much?

The Lagna (ascendant) changes sign roughly every two hours, and every house, and so every yoga, is counted from it. With the date alone a tool can place the planets in signs, but not in houses. If you only know the date, read house-based yogas as possible rather than confirmed.

Ashtakavarga: the strength of each house in numbers

Ashtakavarga scores every sign with benefic points (bindus) from the seven planets and the Lagna. Added together, the Sarvashtakavarga always totals 337 points across the 12 houses, an average of about 28 per house. Houses above 28 tend to support their themes; houses well below it need more effort. Astrologers often look at the 10th (career) and 11th (gains) houses first, which is why “40 points in the 11th house” is such a common search.

Kundli matching and compatibility

Traditional Indian matching uses Ashtakoota Guna Milan: eight factors (Varna, Vashya, Tara, Yoni, Graha Maitri, Gana, Bhakoot and Nadi) worth 36 points in total. A score of 18 or more is the usual minimum for a match, with Nadi and Bhakoot doshas checked separately. How to get an accurate result

Use the time on your birth certificate or hospital record, not a rounded family estimate.
Enter the town of birth, not where you live now. Time zone and latitude change the Lagna.
Check the ayanamsa: our tools use Lahiri (Chitrapaksha), the standard in Indian panchangs. Western (tropical) charts will differ by about 24°.
Read a yoga with its strength. A yoga made by weak, combust or debilitated planets gives milder results than the textbook description.

Can I check Raj Yoga by date of birth only?

Partly. The date gives the sign of each planet, but Raj Yoga is about house lords, and houses need the birth time and place. With the date alone, treat the result as a possibility to confirm with your birth time.

What is the difference between the Raj Yoga and Yoga calculators?

The Raj Yoga Calculator focuses on kendra–trikona lord combinations and their variants. The Yoga Calculator scans the chart for a wider set of yogas, including Gajakesari, Budhaditya, the Pancha Mahapurusha yogas and Dhan yogas.

How many points should a house have in Ashtakavarga?

The average is about 28 (337 ÷ 12). Above 28 is considered supportive, above 32 strong, and below 25 a house that needs more effort.

How many gunas should match for marriage?

Out of 36 points in Ashtakoota Guna Milan, 18 is the traditional minimum, 24–32 is considered good, and Nadi or Bhakoot dosha is assessed separately whatever the total.

Which ayanamsa do these calculators use?

Lahiri (Chitrapaksha) ayanamsa, the one used by most Indian panchangs and the Government of India's calendar reform committee.
