12th Cut Off Calculator: Engineering, Arts & Science and Percentage
This 12th cut off calculator gives a Plus Two student the numbers college admissions actually use: the TNEA engineering cut-off out of 200 (Maths + Physics ÷ 2 + Chemistry ÷ 2), an arts & science average of the core subjects, and the overall percentage out of 600. It works for current HSC marks out of 100 per subject and the older pattern out of 200.

How to calculate 12th cut off for engineering
Every May, the day TN HSC results come out, teachers in Chennai, Coimbatore and Madurai sit with students working out one number: the engineering cut-off. TNEA counselling ranks students by it, so a quarter of a mark can move a rank by hundreds.
Engineering cut-off (out of 200) = Maths + (Physics ÷ 2) + (Chemistry ÷ 2) (with each subject's marks scaled to 100)
Example: Maths 95, Physics 88, Chemistry 90 gives 95 + 44 + 45 = 184 / 200. Under the older pattern (each subject out of 200), the marks are first halved; the calculator handles both.
What if two students have the same cut-off?
TNEA breaks ties using Maths marks first, then Physics, then the fourth optional subject, and finally date of birth (the older student ranks higher), as given in the TNEA information brochure each year.
12th cut off for medical admissions
Medical admission (MBBS, BDS) in Tamil Nadu is now based on NEET UG scores, not a 12th-marks cut-off. The +2 marks still matter as an eligibility condition (minimum aggregate in Physics, Chemistry and Biology), but the merit list follows NEET ranks. For paramedical and allied courses, colleges may still use a 12th-marks average; check the year's prospectus.
12th cut off for arts and science
For BA, BSc and BCom admissions, many colleges rank applicants by the average of the four Part III subjects (the core group subjects), while others use their own weighting or an entrance test. The calculator shows the common average-based figure out of 100, and out of 200 for colleges that state it that way. Always confirm the method in the college's admission notice.
How to calculate cut off for 600 marks
With six subjects of 100 marks each, the overall percentage is simply total ÷ 6. So 512 out of 600 is 85.33%. How many marks is 70%? 420 out of 600. The percentage mode of the calculator shows these figures for 500, 600 and the old 1200-mark pattern.
| Percentage | Marks needed |
|---|---|
| 60% | 360 |
| 70% | 420 |
| 75% | 450 |
| 80% | 480 |
| 90% | 540 |
How to calculate the +2 mark percentage
Add the marks of all subjects shown on the marksheet and divide by the maximum (600 for six subjects of 100), then multiply by 100. Language papers are included unless a particular admission says “Part III only”.
Keep a printout of the provisional marksheet ready on result day: TNEA registration usually opens within days, and the cut-off is entered from it.
12th Cut Off Calculator: questions people ask
How do I calculate 12th cut off for engineering?
Cut-off (out of 200) = Maths + Physics ÷ 2 + Chemistry ÷ 2, with each subject out of 100.
How is 12th cut off calculated for medical admissions?
MBBS and BDS admissions now follow NEET UG scores; 12th marks are used only for eligibility.
How do I calculate 12th cut off for arts and science?
Many colleges use the average of the four Part III core subjects out of 100, but methods vary by college.
How many marks is 70% in 12th?
420 out of 600 (six subjects × 100), or 140 out of 200 in a single subject on the old pattern.
How do I calculate the +2 mark percentage?
Total marks ÷ maximum marks × 100. For six subjects of 100, divide the total by 6.
