Every KL University course code comes with four numbers, like 3-0-2-4, and every semester some students at Vaddeswaram discover too late that missing skill or practical hours hurts as much as missing lectures. KL University LTPS attendance is simply all four kinds of hours added together. This guide explains the counting and works through an example.
What L, T, P and S mean
| Letter | Component | Typical activity |
|---|---|---|
| L | Lecture | Classroom teaching |
| T | Tutorial | Problem-solving sessions |
| P | Practical | Labs |
| S | Skill | Skill-development sessions, often hands-on or project-based |
A course listed as 3-0-2-4 has 3 lecture hours, no tutorial, 2 practical hours and 4 skill hours each week: 9 contact hours, of which only a third are lectures.
How KL University LTPS attendance is counted
Attendance % = (L + T + P + S hours attended) ÷ (L + T + P + S hours held) × 100
Because skill and practical hours are part of the total, skipping a 2-hour lab costs as much as two lectures.
What is the minimum attendance at KL?
Commonly 85%, with condonation in genuine cases down to a lower limit set in the regulations. Confirm the current rule on the ERP or with the class advisor.

A worked example at 85%
By mid-semester a student has 108 hours held (L 36, P 24, S 48) and has attended 90 (L 33, P 20, S 37).
Current attendance = 90 ÷ 108 × 100 = 83.3% Hours needed in a row for 85% = ⌈(0.85 × 108 − 90) ÷ 0.15⌉ = ⌈1.8 ÷ 0.15⌉ = 12
The weak spot is skill hours (37 of 48, 77%). Attending the next 12 hours without a miss brings the overall figure to 85%; at 85%, every missed hour needs more than five attended hours to balance it.
Leave and condonation tips
- Apply for medical or event leave on the ERP promptly; approved hours are typically not counted as absences.
- Keep supporting documents (medical certificates, participation letters).
- Watch each component's percentage, not just the overall figure, if your regulation counts them separately.
A weekly habit that prevents shortage
Every Sunday, check the ERP attendance for each course and compare it with your own count. If any component is below the target, mark the next week's sessions for that course as must-attend. Students who check weekly rarely face shortage, because a gap of two or three hours is easy to close early but hard to close in the last month.
The KL calculator's LTPS tab adds the four components, shows each one's percentage, and tells you how many hours can be missed or must be attended to reach your target. Its other tab works out SGPA and CGPA.
