IGNOU Percentage Calculator: Final Marks, Grade and Overall %

This IGNOU percentage calculator works out final marks the way IGNOU does: 30% assignment + 70% term-end examination for each theory course. It checks the pass mark in each part, shows the IGNOU letter grade, and averages all courses into an overall percentage, useful for BA, BCom, BSc (BSCG), MA Political Science (MPS) and every other programme.

Overall is the simple average of courses; programmes that weight courses by credits will differ slightly. Practical and project courses use different weightages.

How IGNOU calculates final marks

Counsellors at IGNOU study centres repeat one rule to every new learner: the two parts are weighed differently, and each must be passed separately. Assignments count for 30% and the term-end exam (TEE) for 70%.

Final marks = 0.30 × assignment marks + 0.70 × term-end marks (both out of 100)
Overall % = average of course final marks (or credit-weighted, where the programme says so)

Example: 78 in the assignment and 62 in the TEE give 0.3 × 78 + 0.7 × 62 = 23.4 + 43.4 = 66.8%, a B grade.

Can a high assignment score cover a low exam score?

No. The pass mark applies to each part on its own, usually 35% for bachelor's and diploma programmes and 40% for master's. A course with 90 in the assignment but 30 in the TEE is not completed until the TEE is cleared.

IGNOU grade calculator: what the letters mean

IGNOU letter grades
GradeMarksMeaning
A80% and aboveExcellent
B60–79.9%Very good
C50–59.9%Good
D35–49.9% (40–49.9% for master's)Satisfactory (pass)
EBelow the pass markNot completed / re-appear

Practical, lab and project courses use different weightages, set out in each programme guide, so the calculator is meant for theory courses.

IGNOU percentage for BSCG and MPS

  • BSCG (B.Sc General): theory courses follow 30/70; science practicals are evaluated separately. Add each theory course's marks and use the average.
  • MPS (MA Political Science): all theory courses use 30/70 with a 40% pass mark in each part. Choose “Master's” in the calculator.
  • BAG, BCOMG and other CBCS programmes: same 30/70 weighting; some programmes calculate the overall result credit-weighted.

Checking IGNOU marks by enrollment number

IGNOU's grade card is published on its website: open ignou.ac.in, go to the results section, choose the grade card status, select the programme and enter the enrollment number. The grade card lists assignment and term-end marks for each course. Copy them into the calculator to see final marks and the overall percentage instantly; this site never asks for an enrollment number.

IGNOU percentage to CGPA

Newer IGNOU CBCS programmes show grade points and CGPA as well. Where a CGPA is printed, the conversion rule given on the grade card or in the programme guide should be used; otherwise the percentage from this calculator is the figure most employers and universities ask for.
